Nut allergies are some of the most common food allergies. Roughly about 1.5% of all people have a Nut allergy. It is also one of the most dangerous and deadly allergic reactions. Most people are very sensitive from either eating trace amounts or nuts or even just inhaling the airborne particles. Typically in most patients, each reaction from nuts becomes more and more severe and more and more deadly.

Nut allergies are on the rise, particularly in children. Nut allergies in America have doubled from 1997 to 2002. Typically children will outgrow other allergies, such as allergies to milk or eggs. With nut allergies this isn’t the case. Nut allergies are typically a life-long allergy. Though it has been rumored that 10-20% of adults will outgrow their nut allergy, this is still unproven.

According to the American Peanut Council, "There is no cure for peanut allergy and no therapies that eliminate or reduce the severity of peanut allergy. Current treatments only address the symptoms of an allergic reaction once it has taken place."

We, at Drug2Herb disagree with the above statement. We know and believe that there are other options out there for our patients. There is a well established mouse model for peanut allergy. FAFH-2 was successful in preventing anaphylactic reactions for at least six months in these mice, which is about 25 percent of their life span. In a Phase I trial already completed, FAFH-2 was found to be safe and well tolerated in human children. Lately we have combined ASHMI with even GREATER results! Ku Shen is extremely important herb for helping with the nut allergic response. We have lowered the each herb by 1% (except rou gui) and add in Ku Shen by 8%.

"In the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Li et al.  asthma herbal medicine intervention (ASHMI) has shown benefit in mouse studies of asthma. Their herbal recipe is a simplified version of a 14 herb traditional Chinese medication used to treat asthma in a Beijing hospital. The key ingredients are Ling-Zhi (Ganoderma lucidum), Ku-Shen (Radix Sophora flavescentis) and Gan-Cao (Radix Glycyrrhiza uralensis). They have found that ASHMI significantly improves the lung functioning patients with moderate to severe asthma.  Upon further study they found that the results were comparable to those achieved with steroid drug therapy.  As Dr Xiu-Min Li stated, "This is the first well-controlled study in which an anti-asthma Chinese herbal medicine has been found to be as effective as a corticosteroid drug."

What wasn’t said was just the herb Ku-shen was shown to be 90% effective for the overall the formula. The addition of Ling Zhi and Gan Cao only added 10% more effectiveness to the formula.
